Presentation
Founded in the 10th century, the former Sainte-Croix collegiate church is listed as an exceptional heritage site in Wallonia. It is distinguished by its two choirs with opposite apses and its three naves of equal height which make it a hall-type church.
This Rhine-type building is made up of a Romanesque-Gothic western choir (end of the 12th century), an eastern choir, a Gothic transept and nave (13th-14th centuries).
The treasure of the collegiate includes several major pieces:
* the key of Saint-Hubert, which would have been given to the bishop during his visit to Rome in 722.
* the triptych of the True Cross, a masterpiece of Mosan goldsmithery.
* The Invention of the Holy Cross, a painting by Bertholet Flemalle.
* the sculptures of Guillaume Evrard.
* the remarkable mausoleum of Canon Hubert Mielemans.
Currently under renovation, the Sainte-Croix collegiate church will soon host tourist and cultural activities.
Opening : The collegiate is being restored, it is only occasionally accessible during site visits.
